Park City is a great place for skiing, snowboarding, experiencing the Sundance Film Festival, or enjoying summer activities that can be found in this beautiful mountain town. No matter what the activities, there are a variety of great dining experiences to be had. Here are five, which range from the new to the classic.
BISTRO at Canyons Resort
BISTRO at Canyons Resort (Silverado Lodge, 855-444-KOSHER) opened in December, 2011, as the first kosher restaurant to be located at a ski resort in the United States. In terms of what is being offered in the way of religion, the menu is entirely kosher and a rabbi is on staff at all times to supervise and make sure all of the required protocols are being followed. There is a synagogue adjacent to the restaurant where daily services are held, including a Friday night sabbath service. The restaurant is open for dinner, but prepared kosher box lunches are available at four different locations throughout the resort during the day.
While the faith aspects of the restaurant will be important to Jews who want to keep kosher while traveling, those outside the faith will find that BISTRO is an excellent restaurant in its own right. Delectable sliders, beef cheek gnocchi, steaks, a variety of soups and salads and kosher wines all make for a great evening of dining, regardless of one’s religious beliefs.
The Farm at Canyons Resort
The Farm at Canyons Resort (Resort Village, 435-615-8080) made it onto all of the critics “Best New Restaurants of 2011” lists by offering modern American cuisine made of fresh products that are all sourced within 200 miles of Park City. The Farm is open for lunch and dinner with a menu that rotates seasonally.
Besides eating, The Farm’s outdoor patio can also be a great place to hang out while having drinks and watching the action on Canyon’s newly created Ski Beach, a new apres ski destination at the bottom of one of the Canyons runs.
Silver On Main Street
The restaurant Silver (508 Main Street, 435-940-1000) made an immediate splash when it opened during Sundance 2011. The historic building on Main Street got a makeover of modern decor and is divided into three different floors, including a top floor that features a full bar and dance area.
The Silver menu features seafood dishes such as grilled baby octopus and lobster bisque along with homemade gnocchi and risotto. Diners can choose from everything to a locally sourced ribeye to the “Silver Burger.”
Talisker on Main
Talisker on Main (435-658-5479, 515 Main St.) seems to always be a new restaurant since the menu changes regularly to take advantage of local products and also accommodate the imagination of chef and team that are always coming up with new tastes. Perhaps the best thing that can be said about this restaurant is that the regulars keep coming back not because they have one particular dish they want again, but because they know they will always finding something fresh and unique.
The restaurant also offers three unique settings. There is a main dining room, a more secluded wine room and “The Library” which can be booked for private parties. There is also an outdoor patio, complete with fire pits, which sits right on Main Street and is a great location for having a drink and people watching.
Fireside Dining at Empire Canyon Lodge
The most traditional way to eat while in a mountain setting is the way they do in the Alps - in front of a roaring fire. Fireside Dining at Empire Canyon Lodge (9200 Marsac Avenue, 435-645-6632) offers that experience as guests go from one fireplace to another over four courses to see everything from cheese being melted directly onto plates to legs of lamb roasting.
The Fireside Dining experience is open for dinner Wednesdays through Saturdays during the ski season. Guests can add to the winter evening experience by scheduling a horse-pulled sleigh ride around the grounds before, during or after their meal.
Park City is a place where visitors can have a variety of experiences, and there is a restaurant that seems to go with every mood or activity.
