Wind Walker dude ranch in Spring City, Utah, offers families the chance to relax together while engaging in a variety of activities.

One thing families are often looking for when they travel is simply the chance to spend time together. Spending time at Wind Walker Ranch gives families just such an opportunity.

Cut Off, With Modern Conveniences

On the one hand, being at Wind Walker is like traveling back in time in that there are no TVs or DVD’s. There is also the feeling of being miles from anywhere and surrounded by wilderness. However, visitors will not feel like they are having to “rough it,” as they relax in completely modern villas that come complete with jacuzzi tubs and refrigerators.

Families will also get to relax together because they never have to worry about planning meals, or having to prepare food. All of the meals are prepared by ranch owner Loretta Johnson, who among her many other talents, is a very good cook. While all of her meals are tasty, she’s at her best when preparing a big full ranch breakfast that includes blueberry pancakes, eggs, dutch oven potatoes and bacon raised by local farmers.

Getting away from the noise and stress of life can also give travelers the opportunity to take time to reflect. Johnson, who is part Native American, is well versed in the ceremonies of her ancestors, and those who are interested can have her teach them about how to meditate around the large stone circle on the property, or arrange to take part in a sweat lodge ceremony, located on the property.

Horeseback Riding

Wind Walker Ranch has the numbers working in its favor when it comes to horseback riding. There are 15 horses on the property, which can often be found grazing around the villas in the morning. The ranch itself sits on 175 acres with riding permission on a surrounding 2,000 acres and access to 500,000 acres of Forest Service land.

Of course, those numbers also lead to many other outdoor opportunities, such as fishing, hiking or even swimming in a lake. (There is also a swimming pool on the property.) However, horseback riding is the most popular activity, particularly with kids, because they not only get to ride, they also get to help saddle the horses up and take care of them.

Campfire Entertainment

Life on the ranch leads to the kind of laid-back afternoons where the perfect thing to do is drive a few miles into the small town of Spring City to the Sugar Plum Cottage for “snow cremes.” These creations combine shaved ice, ice cream, condensed milk and various flavorings to create a unique flavor experience. One will be able to taste the difference as everything is homemade from the ice cream to the sweetened condensed milk.

After the sun sets is the time to gather round the campfire, where real-life cowboys who are friends with Loretta and work on local ranches drop by to sing, play guitar, and let the kids sit on their horses while telling stories.
